More US bank closures in the offing

There have been over 118 bank closures in the US in the year 2010 till last week end, and there are indications of a steep increase in the bank closures in the coming months.
The US FDIC provides the list of weak banks every quarter, and the report for the June quarter issued few weeks bank puts the number of weak banks in US at over 800. A year back it was only at around 500 banks and of that nearly 20% of the banks are out. So as a thumb rule we can expect the bank closures to be in the 130-160 band in the next 12 months. So expect more bank closures, and the resultant negative efforts on the US economy in the coming months.

Crude oil prices can shoot up again to 80 dollars

The crude oil prices are down from 84 dollars two months back to less than 74 dollars this week. There has been a spate of negative data flow in the last two months which pulled down the crude oil prices. But with some stability returning to Germany , France and UK, and also some stability returning to China, the demand for crude oil is set to return to normalcy over the coming months.
Also the ban on deep water drilling by the US would start impacting the future availability in a big way, and that can keep the crude oil prices at around the 80 dollars mark. If the US FED is able to keep the US economy humming by special measures, which it has assured, then the demand from US also would remain steady.
So expect crude oil prices to go to 80 dollars soon and remain there for few quarters.

What must US do to create more local Jobs

The US has to learn from the past mistakes it has been doing in the last few decades during which time it has moved from being a net creditor nation to a debtor nation. During the same time, China has moved from nowhere to become the number one exporter and also the fastest growing economy of the world.

Eight banks fail in US this week alone

The week ending today has seen another eight US banks downing shutters, due to weak capital status. These banks now would be taken over by the US FDIC and handed over to suitable party at a later date.
This takes the cumulative year to date bank closure total to 118 bringing it closer to the 145 banks closed in the full year 2009. The year 2010 could well see a far higher number of bank closures in US only because the housing sector is not reviving and the unemployment rate remains too high.

Steel Plant produces again

Steel production at the former Alphasteel plant in Newport has resumed.

Mir Steel UK said 80 employees began a partial re-start on Monday and the firm had plans to take staff numbers to 140, dependent on demand and orders.

Union Community said it would be a “bittersweet moment” for former workers who tried to keep the site going.

Around 400 workers were sent home days before Christmas 2007 when the site’s former owners went into administration.

The hot strip mill at the plant has capacity for a million tonnes a year.

In May, the new Russian owners, who renamed the new company Mir Steel UK, advertised in The Argus newspaper that it wanted to create up to 100 new jobs in the site by the end of the year.

Crude oil crashes to 68 dollars

Crude oil prices were at over 85 dollars just five weeks back, but since then there have been many negative news flows that affected the prices in the global markets.
